I make practical pottery using local clays.
I started pottery in 1977 at an evening class in Lambeth and work in all clays, trying to include an element of local material. My work is of a very practical and functional nature. Each item is handmade, glazed and fired by myself to produce individual pieces.
I dig and process my own earthenware clay and slips (liquid clay used to decorate pots) and mostly fire in an electric kiln. Occasionally I fire stoneware pots in a friend’s wood fired kiln.
In contrast to this I enjoy the spontaneity and social side of firing my Raku kiln with friends and anyone who wants to join in.
