For me, photography is the medium that can capture ‘the moment,’ as life can be as fleeting and transient and ever-changing as the shifting of light.

I was raised nearby in Hampshire by a father who was a great amateur photographer. I was often the subject of his photos. In 1984 at twenty years old I bought my first ‘proper camera.’ (A Minolta X-700.) From then on I was the observer and behind the lens instead of in front of it.

Whilst living in Brighton in the 1980’s I undertook an extensive body of work of black and white portraits, developing and printing all the work myself.

In 1993 I completed a formal course in photography (BA Hons) at the Polytechnic of Central London. It was here that I also became interested in colour landscape photography. Not the traditional sweeping vistas, but an observation of human influence on our surroundings. Also the use of cropping and inventive angles gave me a new body of work of the surreal and abstract. Light and shade are a big part of my work. Looking for subtleties that sometimes others do not see.
